Next, I select the colored type layer (press command while clicking on the little layer preview image in the layer panel).
Using a larger brush, I fill in the outlines of the colored type with the same color.ħ. This builds the framework for the 3D type.Ħ. Using a small, rounded brush, I draw lines connecting the colored background to the white type in front of it. Then, I place this new colored layer behind the original white type and nudge it over to a depth that I like.ĥ.
I duplicate the type layer on top of the original one, pixel-lock it too, and fill it with another color (this color will become the 3D part of the lettering).Ĥ. This layer will be the base that I build the type off of.ģ. Then, I pixel-lock the type layer and fill it with another color that pops, usually white. I chose green in honor of all the picklebacks I did with my friends this weekend haha. Next, I fill the background with some delightful color. I start with my isolated type on one layer, and a clean white background behind it.Ģ. Hope you enjoy this little insight into my process!ġ. It’s the more advanced version of my first tutorial, which goes over the basics of taking drawings from paper to Photoshop. It completely slipped my mind, so to celebrate its belated birthday, here’s a tutorial on how I turn my flat type drawings into fun typographic illustrations. And of course, I get a little bit crazy and change my mind about the “with” graphic at the very last moment haha.įun fact: Daily Dishonesty turned 1 year old last week!!! I add some chocolatey elements (drawn with the Brush tool).ġ3. Using the Brush tool, I complete the shadow.ġ2. I place the this layer underneath the original type and position it to the depth I want.ġ1. Since this design calls for shadow type, I make a copy of the type layer and lower the opacity to 50%.ġ0. Since the type layer is pixel locked, the brown will only fill the drawing.ĩ. I fill both layers with color (it’s chocolate-themed, so a sweet blue and milky brown felt just right). Then I place a filled white layer underneath my type and pixel lock my type layer.Ĩ. I press “delete” and now I have lovely, isolated type!ħ. Making sure my layer isn’t locked, I use the Color Select tool to select the whites.Ħ. I adjust my Levels to knock out the grid pattern, really brightening the whites and slightly darkening the blacks.ĥ. The drawing gets scanned into the computer at 600 DPI and then is brought into Photoshop.Ĥ. I always feel like a tattoo artist whenever I do this haha.ģ. Using a fine ink pen, I trace and fill in my sketch.
Use it if you want for practice, it’s ok. Try to chose images with color backgrounds or pictures with not many details in the background. I recommend you to use pictures in HQ because if the pic is low in pixels the result it’s not the same. I want to show you how I do it since a lot of people were asking lately! Hello guys again! I’m making this quick tutorial requested by an anon so I hope this help you! I don’t do nothing special, but anyway.
